IMPORTANT INFORMATION

KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Frankie Minor, AVP and Director of Housing and Residential Life at the University of Rhode Island

Frankie Minor is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Director of Housing and Residential Life at the University of Rhode Island, where he has served since November 2017. He supervises all aspects of URI’s residential program, including its various living and learning communities. Prior to URI, Frankie served as the Director of Residential Life at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) for 23 years, a program which provided housing for about 7300 students and offered over 20 different Living Learning Communities. He also co-developed and supervised the extensive Freshman Interest Group (FIG) program, which is recognized as a national model and has served over 30,000 students since its creation in 1995, resulting in increased academic achievement, retention and graduation.

At MU, he coordinated the development, implementation, and completion of a $400 million long-range strategic construction and renovation plan that addressed every undergraduate housing facility, including constructing 14 new residence halls and fully renovating 10 existing residence halls in 15 years.

Frankie is also active professionally, having presented nationally and internationally on living/learning programs, collaboration with faculty, community development and strategic planning. He served as faculty for National Learning Communities Project, ACUHO-I South African Training delegation, various Learning Community Institutes, National Housing Training Institute (2003, 2013), South African Housing Training Institute (2016) and the inaugural Global Housing Training Institute in Australia (2018), and is only 1 of 2 persons to serve as faculty at all three ACUHO-I Training Institutes. Frankie has also been a consultant at multiple Living-Learning and Residential Colleges (LLRC) including being a keynote speaker at three LLRC conferences including South Africa and Botswana.

Frankie has also served as a consultant or program reviewer for over 15 institutions, authored seven chapters, articles or monographs and conducted over 60 presentations and workshops at regional, national and international conferences.  Many of these have focused on the creation and maintenance of living/learning communities, other integrated learning experiences and collaboration with faculty on student learning.  He is interested in seeking new ways to directly involve students in their own education, and working with faculty to develop integrated and collaborative learning experiences, particularly in non-traditional or out-of-class learning experiences.
